about //

A nice and healthy mix of improvisers from Chicago and Amsterdam come to OCCii this friday.
The improvised music scenes of these cities have a longstanding relationship for good reasons. Both cities have many similarities not only in terms of music, but also how the scenes and musicians organize themselves as a community.
A duo and a trio. And a big chance they’ll form a quintet at the end.
This concert will be recorded live for a potential release by Daniel Goldacarena. So if you always wanted your hand clapping talents to be released on an album, this is your chance! Hope to see all of you, literally ALL of you. And spread the word to people who might be interested!

Terrie Ex and Ken Vandermark have been working together for many years, performing and recording in the quartet Lean Left (with Paal Nilssen-Love and Andy Moor), and The Ex & Brass Unbound.  In September of 2014 they toured together in Europe as a duo for the first time, and since then have performed in this context on a regular basis.

Dave Rempis and Frank Rosaly have been working together in numerous projects for decades, most notably in the Rempis Percussion Quartet and duo Rempis/Rosaly.
Jasper Stadhouders first met them in Amsterdam roughly 10 years ago, when he first got exposed to improvised music. Since then the three have played together in many ad hoc situations. Frank moved to Amsterdam a couple years ago and Jasper and him work together in several bands like o k a p i and the PolyBand.
The three of them toured as half of the Ingebrigt Håker Flaten Chicago Sextet in 2014.

They first played as trio on a short European tour in April 2017. Their deep musical connection and interplay was obvious from the first second and there was no other way than to pursue playing as a band.
