THE REST IS NOISE @ BIMHUIS
Hypermodern new music by the pianists of Ensemble Klang and Bang on a Can, including the layered minimal funk of Nik Bärtsch (Ronin).
This concert includes no less than three world premieres, presented by two top piano players. Saskia Lankhoorn and Vicky Chow form X88, a duo performing new music as if it is pop music, with spectacular sound and blistering chemistry. The material comes from very different composers, from the American sound artist en electronica wizard Tristan Perich to Nik Bärtsch from Switzerland, known for his rhythmically layered minimal funk.
Saskia Lankhoorn, a member of Ensemble Klang, made a lasting impression with her album Dances and Canons (2014), playing Kate Moore compositions. Canadian pianist Vicky Chow is a member of Bang on a Can from New York and is performing all over the world as a soloist. They have commissioned Vanessa Lann (US), who wrote a piece called X88. And in a way Butterfly Piece by Pete Harden (UK) is a new piece of music as well, since every performance is meant to be fully improvised, with directions by the composer.
